Campaign News
I Am Honored
"I am honored the voters of the Sixth Congressional District have voted to return me to Congress and I am grateful for the confidence they have shown in me.

"We have seen a lot of change across our country tonight, and it is clear the voters want us to address the issues that are critical to moving our country forward.  First and foremost we must get our economy back on track and creating good jobs so that every American who wants to work can go to work.   I look forward to working with my Republican colleagues and President Obama to find balanced solutions to the serious issues facing our country.

"At the end of the day, what the American people want is a government that works – that solves problems.  I am hopeful that we will rise above the partisan bickering and in-fighting that only serves those who want to sow the seeds of conflict at the expense of addressing the needs of our country.  I hope when we return to Washington, we will rise above the harsh rhetoric that we have heard too much of in this campaign and work together on behalf of the American people.

"I want to acknowledge John Spratt’s service to our state and nation for the past 28 years.  I know from personal experiences that elections don’t always turn out the way we hope, but whatever the results, they cannot erase the past.  And for the past 28 years, "John Spratt has served the 5th District of South Carolina and our entire with honor and dignity and his loss is a great loss to the nation."

Why I'm Running

One on One with Jim Clyburn
1. What are the two most important things that should be done to improve our nation’s economy?

We should quickly pass the Transportation and Infrastructure Bill. Putting people to work repairing our roads and bridges, cleaning our air and making our water safe to drink. This will create construction and manufacturing jobs here at home that can never be outsourced.

Secondly, we should implement a comprehensive energy policy. Developing alternative sources of energy and a green economy will also create jobs that cannot be outsourced. That is why I sponsored the "Rural Star" legislation that just passed the House, and which the Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina estimates will create 7,000 jobs in our state alone.
